Your fish will have plenty of oxygen as long as you have plenty of surface agitation. This can be created by HOBs, spray bars, powerheads, etc. You don't need air pumps and air stones for oxygen. In fact, air stones create very little oxygen for the fish (unless your air stone is creating so many bubbles that the surface is constantly being broken up by them).

nice. I'm going to just unplug them for now, and see if my fish start "sucking wind" in the next day or two.

I unplugged it, and it seems so much more peaceful (for the fish and for me, the bubbles and the pump made more noise than I thought). hopefully it works out. if not, I'm gonna try running the air hoses into my HOB, rather than in the tank itself.

yes i do, just bc i like the look and most my fish like fast moveing water and airrated water.

see now im an official liar... i set up the 30 gallon green spotted puffer tank today... it now has an air pump... looks pretty rad imo

Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny bubbles...
Tiny bubbles

Make me feel fine

I dont run air pumps on any of my tanks unless I need to for oxygen except my guppy breeding tanks which run sponge filters. I do have bubbles running out of my internal canister filter on my 10G chinese mountain stream biotope aquarium though for obvious reasons but that dosn't need an air pump.

i didnt have a battery powered pump during a power cut. yes yes stupid me!
so i got a jug and took off the lid to the tank and scooped water up and poured it back in over the whole length of the tank for about 10 mins. i did 10 mins work and left it for an hour max. the fish were fine. so even if your battery powered pump dies all is not lost.

I am fairly sure he was not talking about emergency battery operated air pumps bud. How many people run battery operated pumps on their tanks 24/7???

in an emergency a battery operated pumps would be nice but the pumps this thread are referring to...would shut off too ;)
You should still have been more specific. Plenty of hobbyists even beginners will misinterpret your posts and I did not say battery-operated devices need to be in use 24/7.
