Can't hurt to try...well not you at least, perhaps the fish. It might help if you provide lots of oxygen via airstones. I find that fishes that live in cold water often require the higher oxygen associated with cold water more than actual the cold water itself. As for acclimation, I suggest keeping them in a container of the water you caught them in until the water matches that of the tank (I assume room temp). I've had the best luck doing that and the waters match by the time I wake up in the morning. Of course make sure you provide airation and all that to said container. Good luck, they're a really interesting fish that I too would love to try someday.
