First of all, your lfs said goldfish would kill the channel? Those have gotta be some pretty big goldfish. Still, goldfish with channel cats isn't a good mix. Once the channels began to grow, the goldies would be gone in a flash.Second, a 100g is not even close to being big enough for 1 channel, and 2 is even worse. Third, channel cats grow really fast at that age. They'll be to big for that 29g probably within a month or two.
Hope that helps!

I agree. That tank is already full with the fish at their current sizes. Also, you can expect the channels to be triple their current size in a matter of months, and they will need MUCH larger than a 100 gallon in under a year

im going to be building a 200 gallon pond in my backyard next summer ill probably put them in there until i can get a bigger aquarium the problem is im only 13 and i cant get a job till my birthday this december im going to save up and buy the biggest tank possible if my parents allow me ...my mom hates me having aquariums and my dad likes them....i just have to talk my mom into letting me either buy a aquarium or building a large plywood aquarium.has anyone here ever built a plywood aquarium?if so them how much did it cost?how big should i make if for my channelcatfish? could you make me a list of the supplies i would need? any info will help thank you very much!

A 200g pond will not be big enough for them for life... BUT if you keep them cold water at this size, their growth rate is going to slow down a bit and they are coldwater fish anyway so it's not cruel or anything. I have had my channels for about 2 months with MAYBE a half inch of growth... MAYBE. So if you have good filtration and do lots of water changes you'll have about 5-6months maybe a tad longer if you don't get any other fish, I would get rid of one of the pleco's too, they make a huge mess and are just going to cause more issues for you in the long run, you certainly don't need two of them...

When you upgrade to the 100, you could think of wether you want a native tank or sa/ca with some channels tank lol.
Either Oscars or GTs or any of those kinda fish would work, or you could put some yellow perch or sunfish in there with the channels. Once the channels outgrow it you could ad a few more of whatever you have unless you have a few oscar or something, then I'd just let them grow out and maybe replace the channels with a cat that stays on the smaller side...

Those channels would be happy in a 5' diameter pond if you only have the two and don't plan on getting much of anything else... 6' would be better... Channels get HUGE just keep that in mind...

What about getting fish breading, some lemons, and a cleaning knife from WalMart? they're cheaper than building large aquarium for two too big channel catfish...which might need 600gals or more to house two catfish which can reach more than 35 inch long. And sometimes channel catfish can be aggressive toward other catfish and produce BIG turds when they're full grown.

Hold on! I never notice the name of OP.....Thought you were done with natives?? And I thought you Already have other albino catfish before, what happened to them? We told you dont get more tank busters. There are lots of suitable natives thats smaller but look awesome.
