Hi all,
I ordered a Channa andrao from a well known UK aquarium fish shop. They phoned me the day before it was due to be delivered to say that they had come in albino, they had never seen them in albino before, did I mind?

I asked if they were sure if they were the correct species and they said yes. Well what was delivered today is definitely not C. andrao. It has pelvic fins. I have a feeling it's a baby C. striata or C. micropeltis both of which grow significantly larger than the 10cm adult size that I wanted!

Hopefully the shop can get the C. andrao in and I will take back this thing. Otherwise I will have to try to rehome it.

I think that it's probably impossible to tell but does anyone have any idea of its species? It's only about 8cm long currently.

Hard to tell but I’d guess striata.

That albino may be worth far more than what you paid.

Thanks. That's what seems most likely.

Yes that's quite possible. The shop said that they'd send me my andrao free of charge so I will see if I can find a buyer for the little albino. The problem is that it must be a pretty niche fish. I am at least not too far from the London commuter belt so that probably ups my chances of finding someone with a huge tank or tropical pond!

Never seen an albino one I will say , cool
To see that nice fish I’d keep it

If it's one of the two species that I suspect then it isn't all that rare. Sims Tropical fish have 10cm albino giant snakeheads for £50 each whereas a 20cm standard C. barca is £1500!

a guy i knew had a barca. then he moved, gave it away(not to me) and the new owner managed to kill it

Well my good sir as is everything in life when something is illegal their is always a black market for it ,so when I mean rare I mean illegal for the average law abiding hobbyists (which I count myself in that category) and a rarity too those rule breakers who make dumb decisions and then we get restrictions on the fish we can keep.
