this is from Miles' post in fresh water health and diseases. i firmly believe this.
1) Thiaminase
Thiaminase destroys Thiamine (Vitamin B1). Goldfish & Rosie Reds (and most cyprinidae) contain a very high level of thiaminase. Thiamine deficiency can lead to a myriad of problems including neurodegeneration, wasting and death. Tissue Distribution in many living animals is dependent on Thiamine levels. Once Thiaminase is ingested, it has very long lasting effects and does not purge itself from the body. Lack of Thiamine (Vitamin B1) is the primary reason why fish would not be able to properly produce fleshy tissue.

this is why goldfish are not a good choice in food. even if they were quarantined and treated prior to feeding.

what fish do you think they can eat? and ive temporarally named mine biggy and smalls, as one is bigger than the other but im guessing you got that lol

thats a nice little fish lol id feel bad feeding that to my brutal oscars, one of the goldfish has mangaged to survuve, ive named him jumpy because any sudden move and he darts off to the other side of the tank, probably because he saw his mate get ripped apart, hes seen things maaan, things you wouldnt imagine. would i do the norm when breeding convict fish? like with a flat peice of slate or something for them to lay eggs on and whats to stop the oscars from eating them before theyve had chance to breed? or would i need to put them into another tank?
