Albino Trimaculatus

I sent photos of the fish to my friend, Dr. Paul Loiselle. He's pretty much a walking encyclopedia of fish knowledge...and seen a lot. Here's his response:

Mboala tsara! The eyes of both fish are normally pigmented. It appears you are dealing with xanthistic mutants comparable to oink convicts rather than true albinos. If this is the case, your depigmented fish should prove more robust than true albinos.

So either way I'm fine. It's something different that's not seen often or in the hobby. Time will tell as they get older.

The black pigment in the iris of the eye and the dusting on the body tipped me off. Albinos just lack melanin so true albino won’t have any black at all in the eyes or body.

Having said that, xanthic fish should still have some cool color on them and they are probably heartier than albinos which can sometimes be weak genetically.
