Member of the herring family, if you're a fishermen you're probably familiar with "sawbellies", these are basically those. Generally speaking members of the herring family prove to be difficult in captive situations as they prefer cold well oxygenated water and feed mostly on zooplankton.

yup heres another pic. they should eat small guppies and brineshrimp maybe tropical flakes we will find out

Alewives. How do you plan on catching them? They don't do well when handled either. As stated they need large tanks, round in shape. You will find it very difficult to keep them in captivity for any amount of time. I wouldn't attempt it.

i catch them buy the hundreds in summer with a sabiki rig, i plan on only keeping like three they only get to a max of 15 inchs, probly smaller in an aquarium. round tank, hmm possibly

I have to agree with others, they don't do very well in aquariums. And 3 alewives are not enough, they need to be in schools. Isnt they are invasives? What it makes you think they will get smaller in aquariums? Flakes and feeder guppies are terrible food for alewives IMO.

15" Wow! That's really big for alewives. Sea run alewives don't get that big. Females may max out around 12-13". Yes, they are invasive in the Great Lakes. These are landlocked alewives you are catching. You won't have success keeping them for any length of time.
