algae bloom, what to do?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
okay i went and bought one of the ones from petsmart(like posted above). The brand is AA. they have 9watt (up to 44 gallons) and 24watt(up to 88 gallons). the 24watt (which was posted above) was 60 bucks. not so bad. it seems like a pretty okay product, for 60 bucks, i cant argue.

jcardona1 - why did you mount your uv tube sideways on your pump? any benefit? What size is that tank?

Worked extremely well! almost completely clear within 3 days. i suspect it will be crystal clear in another day or so. however, it wasnt completely green and cloudy when i started, i had already been leaving the light off and doing water changes so it wasnt so bad. i assume it would clear up a really bad one in a week!.

the only downside is washing the filter pad out twice a day from fish poop!

was completely worth the 60 bucks.

problem, solved.

you got a great deal!! mine is only 9 watt turbo twist it cost me $129...

this one isnt as nice. and ive found out watts dont matter to much, it also greatly depends on how fast the pump moves water = kill time.

yesterday it was perfectly clear. so 4 days.

im SO HAPPY! woooo!:nilly::nilly::headbang2

finally, i can enjoy the tank.:popcorn:

Wow, I was looking at sterlilizers because I am getting into unexplored waters (by me, anyways) with expensive fish... Electric Blue Jack Dempseys (though they are only 25 bucks locally! in great shape too) and the high price and the fact that I would need to spend 30-50 bucks on a new bulb every 8 months or so deterred me from getting one...

How much are the replacment bulbs for these?

yes it came with the pump, i think the new bulb is about 30 bucks, but its sealed in the housing, so you cant replace the bump, you have to replace the whole housing, it does cost a little more to replace over other brands but this way, you ensure that its perfectly sealed, and its cheaper!

i took mine off my tank awhile ago and its still perfectly clear. really helped. and for 60 bucks, i cant argue at all!

What kind of bulb do you run...like what brand. Also check your phosphates...im glad to hear the UV worked as it should....but if you took it off and didnt correct the problem...it might come back.

bulb as in lighting? or in the uv sterilizer? the uv sterilizer comes in a sealed housing, and you cannot replace the bulb, u have to replace the entire housing.

And for you guys that are interested in sterilizer:
