Algae,in your cichlid tank? Bring it on

I use 1very basic t8 colour glow tube.
The tank gets a good amount of natural light from a nearby window. I use no ferts at all.
All the branches I find while out walking the dog
The tank has a 4 foot by 18 inch footprint.
What's your wood treatment process? I'm about to put new wood I found in my new tank and I'm paranoid that something is going to go wrong... I've soaked multiple times in water, soaked in bleach/water solution and power washed twice (one before, once after the bleach).

First of all you need to know what type of wood it is.Most softwoods like pine are unsuitable.
Oak, beech, hawthorns and fruit tree branches like apple are some that can be used. Most hardwood trees are OK to use.
Make sure the branch is completely dead. This can take quite some time.It should feel very hard and rigid with little flex or bend.
It should not be green inside when snapped. It should be free from any sap.
All I do is wash the branch and poor boiling water over it and it's ready.
I tend to remove all the bark before I clean and boil the branch,it's OK to leave it on small pieces though.
Not sure if you have seen the tank below but this is all wood I collected.

Not 100% on wood type but it was all fallen stuff. No bend to it but some parts were soft. I'm also talking small logs, not branches.
