Algae,in your cichlid tank? Bring it on

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my small guy, algae not an option.

I got some nasty brown algae on the back of my tank. lol had the tank for 6 years and never had green algae once.
Me too. And the algae on my rocks and wood is a rusty brown color (brush algae?) not that beautiful green like the OP has. I'm hoping my Flagtail will take care of it once I move him in. You can kind of see it on the wood here.

what fish is that it's beautiful the colorful one! My driftwood gets some brown algae on it but usually goes away when I feed my fish once a day lol

That is my small guy. to me its the trade off, Yes they are prolific poopers, but I vacuum the pee out of the tanks every week. I find this easier than trying to scrub alga off the glass every week. and Vacuum the pee out of it which I would be any ways. he is in the 145. bigger guy in the 180. tall tanks.

What type of lighting are you using? Spectrum and strength, also what size is that tank? Do you dose with ferts/Co2 etc? I really like that but I never get algae like that. Are those branches you collected or purchased driftwood branches.
I use 1very basic t8 colour glow tube.
The tank gets a good amount of natural light from a nearby window. I use no ferts at all.
All the branches I find while out walking the dog
The tank has a 4 foot by 18 inch footprint.

Thanks for the reply. I want to try something like that with my Discus/Altum tank.

I like the algae im my tanganyika tank. Especially the little grey bushes on the rocks an the grasslike ones on the ground. They make it look more natural.

The only annoying things are these green strings on the filter. But its easy to remove them.
