Its gotta be the light, or to much nutrients in your water, watch how your feeding your fish, maybe lighten the feedings tighten up on the extra food left behind and the mess the fish make after and during eating.

And Algae Destroyer Advanced

If this persists splurge on the green machine at petsmart. It will solve your problem IMO. Good against parasites as well

I did a search on algae destroyer just now and just saw people recomending it its live plant and fish safe Ive only heard good stuff. all of my friends have used it also me or them have never had a problem.

I think it is always a good idea to try all normal avenues before simply adding chemicals to kill the algae. Keep your water pristine, and look into a way to grow the algae in a small external container (in the DIY section there is a "Nitrate Remover" setup that, as far as I've seen, will always clean up your algae). If you have reasonable amounts of light, clean water and you clean your tank regularly, you shouldn't have any problems.

Algae isn't a big problem, anyhow, unless it is directly affecting the filtration or something similar. It can't survive without eating Nitrates out of the water (which might be why it is reading at 0 right now), and try to take it easy. Algae doesn't harm your fish, and it is a minor nuisance (comparatively speaking).

Hope all goes well, and keep us updated.

I have a friends old saltwater setup that uses a 265 and its been cycling with a couple plants and some danios and a betta. I havent had a single problem with algae yet but I also keep the lights limited to 6 hours a day max. The rest of the evening I turn on my DIY moonlights for viewing. I also do light feeding. So yeah I think you didnt let your tank cycle fully and too much light.
