ALGAE WILL NOT GO AWAY!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont dose, at all. I do water changes once every 5 to 6 weeks on my reef tank. In between water changes, everything stays relatively stable. That could be because I top off with decholorinated tap, which my water is relatively high in carbonates.

I guess, if my reef tank was heavily stocked with with lps and sps, then I would need a reactor or a kalkwaser dosing system.

I wish I would have used tap water
I'd have been way better about WC

Yea, I have a rodi unit that I use from time to time, but its more or a pita then I would like.

it can be. i have mine setup permanantly in a small furnace room with an auto shut off and 40 gal container. i just turn it on and leave. i use it for all water changes and top off for my salt tank and brackish tank.

hopefully cichlid will chime in soon so he doesnt think we hijacked his thread.

Tap is only okay if you know it wont harm your animals...exe you get it tested professionally. I had mine tested in a water quality lab recently for bragging rights on here, and the only thing wrong with it is a small amount of nitrogenous wastes (this unfortunately is a broad catagory) but nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia do not register when testing with test kits.

Therefore I use tap. And havent had any issues for almost 10 years of reefing.

tap can be ok. mine is good too. more chlorine then id like. very soft, better for acidic tanks.

We have very hard water in our area. I hate it. I wash my truck and I have deposits on my paint before I can dry it off.

good for holding ph.. high alk. my tap water will drop ph like a brick in a few days.

we have water like yours in our well at work. limewater.

u dont dose anything? how do u maintain alk? i guess a fowlr wouldnt eat much alk.

i know when i was manually dosing if i skipped a day my alk would drop 1dkh.

No I don't dose, not at all. I have a torch coral, monti digitata, monti cap, multiple zoas, plays and mushrooms. I also have a pretty decent size pink birdsnest and a nice (choccolate chip??) acropora. Again, I only have a 20 gallon tank. I do weekly water changes of about 4 gallons. I don't dose anything. I've never had a problem with any of my levels. Oh, I have about 38 lbs of live rock and a 3" sandbed (sugar fine aragonite). I run a 175 watt MH and an HOB skimmer (Aqua C Remora). I've had to frag the monti digi 3 times already. The birdsnest will be soon. I don't see the need to dose anything as long as your water changes are weekly.l ( I guess if your tank is super heavily stock with SPS, you might have to).

i think a lot of it has to do with how hard your water is out of the tap. i know for a fact my water comes out ph7.0 and dkh 2. not good for high ph.
