Has anyone had a gar that has what looks like a green color on their backs. mine has a green color going down the length of him like algea.

That sounds weird. Can you get a picture of it.

Do you check your water conditions? What kind of gar is it?

never seen algae growing on fish, sounds like disease

Does it rub off? or is it the fishes color?

I have seen algae grow on turtles but not gars, If you have algae growing on a gar that would make me think its going to die. I would lean towards disease or scale color.

no, but its probly a infection. sorry to hear. i hope it gets better

I tried to take a picture but there is no way to tell from the picture. I have to hang over the tank to take it and it just looks normal. Its not a dark green, just like a pale green. It is a spotted gar and it is healthier than anything, No other problems exist. Water quality is perfect.I am very ANAL about my water and no, thats not an invitation to any bone smuggelrs out there... hahahahaha

How stromg is the light in the tank it may just be a alge growth Like turtles/rocks but I guess anything is possible doesnt sound like a desease or infection I have ever come across or hered of!!!
