i just rescued a 14" savanna monitor with a serious calcium deficiency. he is unable to use any of his limbs from the elbow down and his jaw is soft. i started him on a diet of ground lean turkey heavily dusted with zoo meds calcium carbonate with d3. any help is desperately needed and appreciated. any links to good care sheets will help as well. i would like to thank all mfk'ers who post here in advance.

I'm sorry I don't know anything to help you with this guy, however, I did want to say thank you.

I hate it that Petco sells these guys, I hate it that I can buy one for $40. Thank you for rescuing it, you are a true hero. :clap:thumbsup:

he sounds like he is in really rough shape but if any body is qualified to help him, its you. most vets would just put him to sleep

Can't help you there, Buddy. But will surely follow your efforts.

I would maybe go a bit higher with the basking temp. maybe like 120. i know monitors like it hot.

liquid calcium would be a good idea to.. try and get some fluids in him as well.. ive used watered down pedialite before to help before with severe dehydration. not sure if yours is but it couldnt hurt.

http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/nutrition_info.php liduid calcium and liquid electrolytes u can find in petco petsmart etc i think that would help and possibly a couple baths to prevent dehyration:D maybe idk much about monitors

do you have pics?

There is no need to put your lizard to sleep Ive so far reabilited 5 iguanas with that same problem and none of them died even the 2 more advanced cases.:headbang2 But you must be really comited as full recovery can take more than a year(this of corse I say out of information because you more than "sheed" commitement;)) In this case one of thouse realy powerfull uv bulbs like power sun from zoomed its very usefull. Liquid and solid calcium and vitamin suplements are a must use, zoomed reptivite is one of the best. As soon you start to see inprovements include also small adult mice because of bone calcium will greatly help recovery. Also give him warm baths so to rehidrate and exersise him. This will be needed as the bonnes rebuild so that they dont fuse thogther. The best of lucks and very good job:D:clap:clap:thumbsup:
