I changed 30 gallon of water should i change more it reads 1.004 dont think i should change all of it but its not my fualt alligater gars are brackish thats what it was labled

1.004 is fine for the fish but change it out and reduce slowly from here. 25% per week of water would be good. continue that even after salinity drop.

And what Idiot said Gator gar or any gar are brackish??? feel free to kick their ass..they tolerate and will survive (Even spawn)in low salinity but it is not optimal for captive fish.

i hope u can get a 24" wide tank soon, u want these monsters to become even more monster! if u won't be able to get a larger tank, may i recommend needlefish, which are actually brackish and are very much like a gar.

I wouldn't change anymore than the 30 gallons you changed for now. Do another water change tommorrow. Those Floridas will outgrow that 55 so I hope you have plans in the near future for a bigger tank. A 12" wide tank cannot accommodate these fish for long.

Another good example on why reading up on any fish before you buy it is essential..

they look nice ;)

my roomate has one, they get huge fast, his put on 3 inches in two weeks, so just make sure you plan on getting a wider tank for it in the very near future.

Thanks for the advise but it was posted a whole article on one website that alligater gars are brackish.

it is not an alligator gar!!! they are not brackish!!! so even if the article was about brackish alligator gar...which they arent! you still dont have an alligator gar!!! you have a florida gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus) please do your research.
