Hi all, I have a 4inch alligator gar, it will bounce from a 20 long, to a 125 to a 270 then 600. From all I read they reach about 30 inches in 1.5-2 years then slow to anywhere from 1-4 inches of growth yearly. Anyhow, I am building a shop/garage, once it’s complete I will house the 600 in there. What size “pond” will I need to construct for an alligator gar? Would like to run plumbing under the slab as well as a drain. From what I gather alligator gar in captivity have never been recorded near their wild caught sizes, but this could simply be due to their life spans and captive requirements just catching up due to research. Thanks in advance. Was thinking of doing a 10’x 20’ and 3 foot deep. It will also house my cooter turtles. I live in Ohio so outdoors isn’t a option

600 is great for the fact that you want growth, and also because turtles tend to take large dumps. But maybe 4 feet deep? or add some 6 inches of height to have a little spot for your turtles to bask in. but as for length width, thats a very decent size, yes. little to be improved there :) also, just an idea, if you do a sort of lip for the turtles, maybe you can make it a double thing as a turtle basking spot and a cave/hidy hole for the gar? I'm pretty sure they're ambushers and like concealment. But do forgive me if this post is dead wrong :')
