Alligator gar loosing colour

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it is a bit overkill there with the WC, 30% is enough!

not always the case. i do 75-80% on all my tanks. 30% isn't enough!

gars are still semsitive to wq like most fish. bad water and you'll see a difference all around. TEST your water then try to fix a problem otherwise you might as well just do nothing. if you can't eliminate possible common things like bad water how can you change anything to fix it?

your tank is bare bottom, your gar will be light from that. gars lighten in the dark, your gar will change from that. if it is eating well then you should be ok, still TEST the water regularly.

70% can be good, but not every day! that tank almost have no cycle with that kind of WC!

Gars will often either darken or lighten depending on the tank colours. Dark tank results in a darker gar, light tank lighter gar. Is it's current tank very light?
Not true. i have a 26" in white sand and dark as can be..so i would not say the tank coloration is going to play part in what it will do.....It will do what it will do...
