So my question is how long would it take for an alligator gar to reach 3 ft.... If I had one that was say 4 in what is the max size it would probably be in a years time?

24" in the first year if well cared for. 1-2" per month from there.

After 26-27"
They don't grow in length as much as they grow in girth

My biggest A. Spatula is almost 9 years old with me, he was in a 6'*1.5'*1.5' tank and was 21" when I rescued him from a local hobbyist

From then on there was a sudden surge of growth and he stopped at 33" and it has been a slow grow and last I measured him he was 38"

My smaller A. Spatula has been with me from 3", he is 4 years old, and is a decent 28"

so there is probably no way for one to reach 3' in a year or probably wouldn't even in 2 years? At least not in a home aquarium.

if you over feed it then it can hit 3' from 4'' in 2 years or less, but that is unhealthy, can reduce the fish's life span and smaller potential max size.
