always be prepared while moving stingrays!

I've moved rays both ways. I think I have it down to a science either way. Your male will be fine. I lost a stinger like that on one of my old hystrix and it bled as well. took forever but it grew back and the ray was fine.

I had the same thing happen but with a 6" ray. I was not prepared like you were. This is good info for people who want to start small and go larger down the road. It is better to go big and avoid the move of a larger ray. You tank was larger to start, I would hate to move a 12" ray out of a 75 gallon tank!!!

i have to say, the guys w ponds have it easy...

Amen to that, I have both and it is so much easier to lean over and pick up then it is to stand on a chair, catch a ray, and then fish it through the tank opening.

yes...the ones the rays gets shipped in....this is only for moving from one tank to another...it's easy to get them to go in and the lift out without injuring them...imho

I have done this as well. Worked best for me.

I use the large net that you use as well, except I tied off the end of the net to make it very shallow...basically, the ray's disk will just sit 1/2" below the net's frame and the tail will be hanging from the net. I use a garden thick PVC gloves and hold the tail while I am moving it out.

If your ray DO got caught in the net, your best bet is to just cut the net and let the ray free, some of my rays have net pieces stuck on them until their stingers shed, which explain why me nets have holes in it lol

i had scissors, but it was so tangled and around the frame of the net, i was struggling. I also used a zip tie and made the net shorter too, but he swung his tail and got it caught. He was crammed in the net since his tail came up like a scorpion and had pressure on it.
