I see Leo crosses as well as pearl crosses & Henlei...ect

OK, here's my question where I ask "am I crazy?"
I see the cross breed pups selling as much as the pure breeds and this I don't understand (even though the animals produced are nice looking).
In other animals, such as dogs for example, hybreds are muts. If you have a Pure breed huskie that cost $1200 and a pure breed German Sheppard that cost $1200 and crossed them, you wouldn't even get 1/2 or even a 1/4 of that for them even though that hybred is beautiful (you might get a sucker to pay that high for them).

Maybe I could see getting the price for a hybred ray, say like, a Leo X Pearl (F1) bred into a Pearl X Leo (F1) getting a LeoXPear (F2)---But even at that, I still see paying as much for a mut as you would a pure breed a bit crazy.
Just my opinion.
What's yours?

I noticed that als well and I agree some of these animals look stunning. I think it will be the same like a lot of other hybrid species: at start these fishes are rare and most people want something that is special. I think in a few years hybrids wil be as commen as the known species and serious hobbyist and breeders will foces on pure blood again. There will always be a market for (especially high quality) hybrids, but I am sure for most of them the prices will go down and stabalize.

look at FH... they are hybrids and some are rediculous in price.... same as srt

Just out of curiosity aren't all dogs direct descendents of wolves? We simple bred certain traits out of dogs to get what we have the today. German shepherds were bred for protection, loyalty, obedience, intelligence. Small lap dogs for size. Poodles for show quality. So as far as dogs go this has all been done before to get what we have the today, so many different kinds of dogs with different traits that we need or can use in our lives? Rays are in the early stages of what we have done to dogs for thousands and thousands of years. I am not saying it is right or wrong to hybridize rays. What I am saying is aren't all dogs really hybrids besides wolves? Just my opinion if I am wrong someone please correct me.

Humans have this mindset that they can 'enhance' other living animals by messing with their gene pools.. it's part of the humans need to fulfill our greedy nature. We are the only animal that kills for 'fun' and forces other animals to hybridize for our own personal 'enjoyment'..

just look at the elusive Liger!

IMO Rays should not be deliberately crossed between variants, and as for people paying crazy high prices for these mutts....PT Barnum probably said it best : " There's a sucker born every minute".
I never did understand the way that some people like rays so much that they want to change them.

Hey I will call you today, Just been so busy with this pond construction.

Very Simple answer.. This is a hobby, any of the fish are worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Same with the 30,000$ p14, if you want it buy it! If you see a ray you like and want it, BUY IT! Im thinking the majority of hobbyist buy rays because they enjoy how they look, not the fact that they are pure blood. Anyone who doesnt like hybrids or see why people pay good money for them doesnt have to buy one and is entitled to their opinion.
I personally enjoy having rays that are rare and not as common as Leo or Pearl pure bloods, and who knows if these occur in the wild or not. I think people in general know very little about potamytrygons so anyone who considers themself a ray expert is a joke! JMO

Mike - I see what you are saying about dogs vs rays and agree that is exactly what is happening.

The down side (to me) is that soon, all we'll have are hybrid rays and NO pure blood at all. Especially if the wild caught option closes itself off 100%.

Isn't it illegal to keep 100% wolves? just being facetious :D

but yeah pretty soon it will be like the flowerhorn game and we will just have a bunch of acronyms..

"Check out my PDRLxMANMOTOxRETISTRIXxORBIDUMERELLI .. its awesome :D"
