this has gotten ridicoulous, Miles, David W, Nic, Ray man, are all very helpful and if everybody would back down a little, then everybody could learn something from eachother. This was very interesting until everybody had to be better than the next and try to prove something. "IMO"

I never tried to be better, and never have.. I am just tired of his BS.

The End.

Back on topic-

F1, F2, F3 is a hobbyist term that is 'dumbed' down for hobbyists to understand.

DW explained it quite well when you use the scientific terms and provided some great links.

Rays with patterns of other morphs but physical characteristics of different morphs is an interesting discussion, I may have pondered it a time or two on this board.. and I would share my thoughts.. but .. :lipsseale

Morphs is another topic that will be debated. :D
Like all the different motoro "morphs" ....... all are one speices, and it's easier to refer to them as a speices than to try and make them sound "special" due to some color pattern. Again, its more of a hobbiest/profit thing. ;)

Did I stir that enough? :grinno:

well I was trying to be technically correct because i didn't want Dr. Science to jump down my throat..

If I recall the definition of a species would be 'Potamotrygon' and so all rays would fall under the same species - such as all dogs would fall under the species of Canis familaris with many different 'breeds' or 'morphs'..

what would be the more technical term for the different types of rays..?

Maybe the ray messiah will come and enlighten us..

Potamotrygon is the genus name. I think we'll see a lot more (re)definition of species soon. (And even a new genus or two.) I think that is why the hybrid topic is so hot. We don't really know which is which, and we need to define those with some sort of concrete assesment - and some (myself included) don't want to make it worse/harder to ID until we know what is and isn't a species.
