55 gallon long with a 11" oscar 7" j.d and 4" j.d. two 380 gph hob whisper's and a fluval 205 for bio filter setup running for a lil over a year with no probs plenty of hiding spots and circulation what do you think

i would say yes, even if you filtration prevents water quality problems, the fish will need more room to move around. the oscar is getting pretty close to having to turn around vertically in your current set up.

You are far from being overstocked. I have 5 11 1/2 '' oscars and 6 manageneuse cichlids and 3 pleco's all in a 55 gallon set so there for your tank is not overstocked. Fish need a 1'' of water per each inch of their body size. Hope this helped

wow you even fail at being a troll .. since in your own logic fails .. 5 * 11.5 > 55 but 1" per gal ... MIHEADASPLODED!!!

If you don't feed them, they eventually go away you know.

As for the OP, yes you're overstocked, lose the oscar or get a bigger tank. First clue is if you had ample space your O would have passed 12" if you've had him a year.

Personally, I've had small fish and such, but with all the reading I've done, that tanks seems a fair bit full, even the 11" oscar has really no room. Personally, if i were you, I'd sell your 50 gal and go up to a 90 or even a 100 gal, but that's just me, I always try to give my fish as much room as I can support. Like the tank I'm buying is 50 gallon, and I'll most likely have 2 discus and 10 of a schooling fish. Will look nice with some live plants;)

Hope everything goes good, by chance do you have any pictures I can see?
