Personally, I've had small fish and such, but with all the reading I've done, that tanks seems a fair bit full, even the 11" oscar has really no room. Personally, if i were you, I'd sell your 50 gal and go up to a 90 or even a 100 gal, but that's just me, I always try to give my fish as much room as I can support. Like the tank I'm buying is 50 gallon, and I'll most likely have 2 discus and 10 of a schooling fish. Will look nice with some live plants;)

Hope everything goes good, by chance do you have any pictures I can see?

with the kind of aggression that these fish have i would say anything short of 300 gal and you have dead fish ..

there are many problems with the set up .. the fish he keeps the size of the tank and the knowledge of the person in general are all wrong

this is why people need to ask before they buy not buy then ask if its ok ... you dont go to the store and buy a English mastiff and not know what your getting ... same as you dont get a teacup rat dog and expect it to be 300 lbs .. you learn first buy second .. his stock is not really the most compatable the tank is WAY to small ... but then again .. its prolly just a troll posting stuff to get members all in a fussy .. who knows .. i guess pics would be proof ..

im not saying that you advice is not wanted .. its just not 100% correct .. but then again you pointed out that your a small planted tank kind of person ..

A 55 could not hold a single oscar for life. Take the oscar back or get a 72" tank.

Ya, I don't know about those biggies, and yea, I'm more into the 55-75 gallon planted, and I'm building a discus tank right now. Should be fun:)

I'll post pix in a few months when I get the plants going, maybe even do a new picture once a week.

You are far from being overstocked. I have 5 11 1/2 '' oscars and 6 manageneuse cichlids and 3 pleco's all in a 55 gallon set so there for your tank is not overstocked. Fish need a 1'' of water per each inch of their body size. Hope this helped

it didnt. youre tank is miserably overstocked and the 1" per gallon rule is a load of crap when it comes to larger fish.

Um wow just wow. The mods will ban me for life if I comment what I'm thinking. The 1" per gallon rule is a general rule of thump, however that would mean that I can keep a 260" (21 ft) Aripima in my 265 (7'X2'X3'). There is some validity with small narrow bodied fish like neon tertas, 10 neons in a 10 gallon works. It's a stupid rule of thumb but for the average aquarists is works.
