Am i Panicking!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah... Catch 22 :( Get a bigger QT tank tomorrow then? Not too expensive though, can't afford much more....will 30 gallons be enough, or minimum 50?

I know that they need a minimum of 75 gallons to live in..but what about for qts?

seriously your going to have to get like a 265 or a 300gal + for him to live in for life... probably much bigger though.
motoros have been known to get upwards of 30 inchs across, though mostly stay around 25inchs ish...
as for the QT tank get whatever you can afford right now the bigger the better

265 to 300...damn thats a year of saving...I'm just hoping that I could save faster than he grows!

I've often used a 10 gallon QT tank because this enabled me the abilitity to port 50 percent of the distributors' water, and hence an "easier" acclimitization...not sure if my theory holds though.

with a motoro your probably going to need even bigger than those tanks probably a pond would be best.
but for the 10gal QT, it would pry be ok for other small community fish, but rays put off a massive bio load and foul there water VERY fast

i have my 6inch ray in a 150gal right now and i have to do 35% water changes twice a week to keep my params right. so just think about the ammount of waste that is going to be in your little 10 gal right now

Its going into the 100 gallon for sure. As soon as QT is done hehe :D but if 100 is not enuf....hmmmn i guess instant ramen every dinner should be fine. 210 gallon in 6 months!

I used to have an 10 inch motoro before in a 150 gallon....for a year and a half, the dude looked like it never grew... :(

how fast they grow depends on alot of things, how much you feed them, what you feed them, what size tank they have, water temp, and females tend to grow alot bigger and faster than males
this isnt to say that he wouldnt be happy in the 100gal for a little while, but your going to have to keep very close attention to your water params in a smaller tank as he will foul the water quickly, specially with other fish adding to the bio load.

I never had any heater before. But only because i I lived in the tropics. I only fed them ghost shrimp and guppies 1x a week, then market shrimps everyday.

Rarely fed them bloodworms because they were hard to remove if they don't eat it and apparently...dunno if its an urban myth, but in the long run, the bloodworms could be bad to your filters.

your probably going to want to keep his temp somewhere in the area of 80-84 degrees. as for foods, my ray loves bloodworms, though he also loves live blackworms as well as live ghost shrimp, im working on getting him to eat pellets as i just got him eating storebought shrimp the other day.

a small ray like your will probably not be able to eat, larger foods like shrimp right now, though thats not to say you cant try it, i would try blood worms and black worms for right now.

but at the present time as he is in a 10 gal, dont feed him very much at all.
the more you feed him the more he will foul the water.
