Note: The 2213 is designed differently compared to the other models.

The 2213 is exactly the same physical design as the 2215 and 2217, just smaller. The media 'basket' is the only difference, but in operation and cleaning it shouldn't make any difference whatsoever.

Why do people love Eheim Classics so much? I've got a 2215 and a 2217, and I have to say it's how simple they are, as well as the fact that they come packaged with EHFI, some of the best media on the market. Cleaning may be a bit of an issue, even though these filters can be reversed flushed by creating a siphon on the spray-bar/outlet, but it's still simple. The main difference, as I'm sure most Eheim users will agree, is that you don't have to clean them anywhere near as often as other brands. My 2215 has been running for 7 months without so much as a backwash and it's still running at full flow rate.

I highly recommend these products.

and worst of all, when you want to replace a filter pad, you have to disassemble the whole thing- disturbing biomedia just to get to the pad, only to discover that because the polishing pad is downstream from the bio-media, the bio-media needs to be dumped & rinsed as well. What a PITA just to swap a filter pad.

cant you just put the pad in front of the bio so that the water is clean before the bio. idk if this is possible i dont have an eheim, i use and xp3 and you can change the order of things

That media basket is the problem. A lot of people can't figure it out. :D

my thoughts exactly and honestly if you have a bucket cleaning is not really even an issue that is the rare time when you have to

The classic line is a PITA for cleaning, but you get used to it and should have a bucket handy :P You can't really compare the Filstar XP line to the Eheim Classics. Compare one of the pro-II's to ANYTHING on the market and they will come out on top. Superior build, less noise, awesome new modular spray bar and not to forget, best reliability on the market.

I'll compare my pro 3e's to the pro 2s and they will come out on top. :D

:P

My 2217 was cheaper than the Fluval 405 that I replaced it with, it holds waaaay more media, flow is at least 1/3 stronger, and it's quieter......How hard is it to dump the contents of the eheim in a bucket of fish tank water, rinse, fill back up, and turn on..............not much different than taking apart 3 or 4 trays and replacing whatever was on each one............I'll take the extra cleaning for the filtration vs. the ease of replacement for lesser quality/quantity.

why not just switch the polishing pad to the top or add some filter floss ?:screwy:
