Pair just had a new batch of fry, looks to be about 200. Hoping they survive and grow fast. I've also attached a picture of a previous female I had, to give you a better idea of which variety of septemfasciata this is. Male is about 5.5"

Good looking male. Nice high massive body without being fat.
That's what I like about the limon variety. While I like the colors on the san jose variant more, I have a sweet spot for fish with taller bodies, as it makes them look more impressive when they get bigger. You should see his grandfather (or father):

Some pictures of the fry + some better pictures of dad
I did a rough head count and came out to a generous estimate of about 150 fry

More good pics of dad post waterchange. Fry seem to be growing, but my perception of size with them is kinda skewed by how big their father is. Oh yeah, and he paired up with a second female. Been beating on his original female pretty bad because of how much she wants to hang around her fry. He's in the process of switching females I guess. I found the new one peeking out of a rock in full breeding dress.

Unfortunately down to like 3 fry from the original batch, but they don't seem to be going anywhere. Not sure why they're disappearing, they're too big to be eaten by the hybrid or the mother, so I assume the father has been snacking on them. The second female is on a batch of wrigglers at the moment, however. Hoping these 3 fry survive, because they're from the female I actually wanted to breed.
Some really nice pictures I got of the dominant female however:

Feeding time really brings out the colors in them. The third female has started laying claim to the driftwood on the right side of the tank, and quarrels with the dominant female during feeding time. Don't mind the cyanobacteria outbreak.

I have just set up a 500g Costa Rican biotope with Septemfaciatums and Nicaraguensis. There doesn't seem to be a lot of people keeping them, so information and inspirationis is hard to come by. Its great to see your set up and little gems.
