Help me out here guys. I'm not questioning your expertise, I'm trying to educate myself.

Whats the reason for raising temp here?
I was led to believe that an increase in temp, increases the toxicity of ammonia.

What am I missing?

Since your ray is curling and no one seems to know what to do in that situation, I'll tell you what I did when my pearl went into an apparent death curl-- I poked it with a net every time it got really curly until it swam around. This probably had nothing to do with the ray's full recovery and probably did more harm than good, but just throwing it out there.

^I wouldn't do that. No reason to add stress to a ray that is already suffering. Just keep up with WC until levels are good and check them daily.

Why such a long wait between filter maintenance? I do a complete filter cleaning once a month. I'd just keep the water changes up and start a more frequent filter maintenance schedule.
