Ammonia Cycle Taking So Long!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Problem is with "live" marine sand is that the bacteria are different from freshwater BB, and also according to most members down by the marine section its is filled with lots of dead stuff that basically just starts the cycle for your water...not give bb

Do you use baking soda often? I just tested my water and it looks like the ph got lower....so I added that neutral regulator thing to bring it back to 7. I guess I will have to add this everyday...unless thier is something on the market that I put in the tank and it always works...guessing crush coral is what raise the ph but how much would be safe? And is it permeant or I will have to change it often?

Bright news is that my ammonia seems to have brought it down to the clearest Ive seen.... 25-.50...I will add more ammonia tonight to bring it to 2-3 and see how much goes down in 24 hours.

I just put a little bit in with every water change to buffer because my water has horrible buffering capabilities and just keep an eye on your PH.

Hey thanks for replies...my tank is strong enough to bring 3-4 ammonia to 0 in less then 10 hours. The ammonia stage is complete and ive been on the nitrite stage since last week. I have enough ammonia to make the water 2-3 one more time. Can i wait a few days before adding ammonia? Or should i add the last amount of ammonia and try to find something else to use? Thanks
