Ammonia Issues- WTF!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
PH is a stable 7.4- also checked with water changes on both the tanks, and the tap water- and no power outages.

I'm going to stop feeding all together for a few days, get some prime, and continue to do water changes..

I am going to keep adding seachem to my 180, as that was filled with cycled water, but the filters were new, and addding those fish was just a quick attempt to not have them die from ammonia burn.

No fish have died, and everyone is being their normal self, so I'm hoping the best. The 30 gallon are getting an upgrade today anyways, so that will help with that situation.

Even though all of the tanks are acting like they are going through a mini cycle, I'd add some sand/gravel from one of the "cycled" tanks to the 180 to help the cycle along. The link I posted seems to have a lot of good to know info about beneficial bacteria if you care to take a gander. I hope everything works out for the best.

I assume that you haven't been allowing anyone new to feed for you?

The 180 has sand/gravel from my koi tank s/g filter, which has been cycled for 2 years, so I am hoping that works.

I don't allow anyone to feed other than me, and my fiance (when I tell him to.. lol) and I actually cut down on feeding- as I used to feed everyday. Now it's every 2-3 days, but like I said, I have no idea what's going on.

I'm going to read that article in a bit.. going to head back to bed and catch some more zzzz's before heading to the airport.

Sounds like you've pretty much got everything covered. Good luck!

Does your water company use chloramine? Or have they recently switched from chlorine to chloramine? I was having ammonia and nitrAte problems over the winter when they upped their chloramine dosages. Hope everything works out for you, you seem to have everything covered so far. Good luck.

They use chlorine, and I asked them if they made any changes at all, and she looking it up, and said nope.. no changes within the last year.. I remember last year when we got a letter in the mail about the changes.

In our municipality they are required to send us letters stating any changes because of health/safety issues.

I tested the tanks this morning, and the ammonia went down quite a bit from the hefty water changes I did- I also did 2 water changes on the 30 today, as it seemed the ammonia was still having affects on the fish.

The 125 was just shy of being at 0. Woohoo! So hopefully that knocks that off the list.

Well I can't put him in the 125 until the water is better. I moved my 125 inhabitants to a 180 so that the puffer can be moved into that tank.

Almost all of my fish are.getting upgraded to larger tanks.

Only 2 tanks are not upgrading.

Im redoing my fish room or well fish basement. Lol

Do a 90% water change on the 125, add Safestart to the filter & put him in there.

Is there ammonia in your tap water?
