An update for Gir and Skittlez my female white face lutino cockatiel and male regular cockatiel. I found an egg again this morning. I know it's nor fertile as they were seperated but I put them back together to see if I can get some fertile eggs out of the other ones. If not there is always next clutch. I was going to take pictures of them but didn't want to bother them more then I did by re-intorducing Skettlez in with Gir. So you will have to settle with old pictures of the pair.

He is always curious at what I am doing and what is going on around him.

Her pictures of from when she was carrying an egg the last time so she is pretty chubby in them.

Great herps & birds!

Try a 50/50 mix of soil and playsand for the Sav, it will hold humidity and burrows much better than eco-earth. He also looks underweight, and if you've had him as long as I think you have, he should be much larger than that..
Sorry if I'm coming off a bit rude there, but it's my honest opinion. What are the temperatures and humidity in his cage?

x2.

Personally, I would start with a 75/25 soil/sand mix and add sand as needed to form a proper burrow.

Tempature I am not 100% sure on it but over 100F my temp gauge died and I need to get a new one. Humidity is normally 50-70%, I haven't checked it today. It drops to 50% when I get back after the weekends. He has got a bit bigger, I actually have not taken newer pictures of him they are a bit old, and will shoot out after I rearange my room we are building him a bigger cage. Not full size but will be at least 3'x6'x2'High. Don't worry about coming off rude really with me it doesn't matter. I am going to add sand to the eco-earth I don't have soil I can use right now. He doesn't dig from what I see the eco-earth stays how I put it. Soon when he is over a foot long he will be going with me on the weekends and will get more care and outside time as well.

It should be higher, at least 130, I've heard of them using up to 160. (Keep in mind I'm talking surface temperatures here.)
How long have you had him? Savs will shoot to three feet over their first year of life if you do everything right.
On the cage, if you're going to build something big, just go for the adult cage, and go 8x4x4 with 2 feet of substrate to burrow in.

I could go on and on but I'll just refer you to these two websites:

I know you said it won't work for a sav but would it help any to keep burrows with soil and sand?

I must have messed up with something with my other monitor so I want to make sure it's 100% good this time. Would bed-a-beast or Exo Terra Plantation Soil Substrate be the soil or will regular plant soil work without any added fertailzers?
Also will this help him add on weight? If I use it it will not be main diet more like once a week or every other week:

I was guessing at the size I could do without messuring it out. After finding a tape mesure I can do the adult tank in my room if I rearange a bit more then I planned to do first off. Not sure how long I have had him maybe a month. I do know their growth rate. The adult cage should be built by the end of this month so he will have that soon. I just need to drain tanks down low enough to move and move them to make room for the cage. Then the build should begin. I guessed at the temp because the temp gauge broke and I know it is at least 100 and is hotter then that. I am going to get a new one soon.

That excavator stuff hardens, dries out, and becomes undiggable, so no. Really, don't get any reptile products. They're inexpensive and don't work as well. Just go to a home improvement store and get some plain, no frills, inorganic topsoil and playsand. Pile it in and put enough water to keep it damp to the point where it can be clumped into a ball and stay together, but crumbles if you jab a finger into it.

As far as that monitor diet, it's crap, plain and simple. Stick with whole prey items. Inverts, and the occasional (every week or two) mouse. Done.

They do need much hotter than 100 to properly metabolize food, and instead of getting a new gauge, invest in a temp gun. Pro Exotics sells good ones for decent prices. They'll measure the temperature much better.

Couple more questions:
About how long is he now?
What size cage is he in?
What kind of cage is he in?
How are you providing heat? (I'm assuming basking lamp, what kind and what wattage?)
What is his feeding regimen like?

Kay I won't get them then.
Length: Roughly 7 inches including tail, he wouldn't stay still.
Cage: 10gl fish tank going in a 50 gl breeder tomorrow.
Light: 75 watt ceramic bulb I am not sure the brand they were given to me When he is upgraded I will be putting 2 of them on the basking side.
Feeding: ~5-10 small-medium crickets every other day, meal worms and as much of a earth worm he will eat 2 times a week, pinkie ever other week I plan on doing feeder fish as a treat maybe once a month and once I grow out nd start breeding the self cloaning crayfish I have he will be getting them added to his diet. Also plan on breeding dubia roaches and adding them to the diet once he is a bit bigger.

It should be getting as many insects as it can eat in a sitting daily rather than a few every other day; your current diet is starving & stunting it.

You can work mice in much more down the road provided that you give it proper basking surface temperatures & other important husbandry items; the old article that suggested that they must only be fed mice is garbage considering that the author of the article doesn't even follow his own advice. A more realistic adult diet is one that's a 50/50 split between rodents & insects with other food items offered as occasional treats; juveniles should primarily be fed insects with rodents being added more & more as they grow until the 50/50 split is reached.

Gir? As in, "Im gonna sing the doom song" gir?

Doom, doom, doom, doom
