An Update on Lazarus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So this is typical O behavior. Ok well im glad im not crazy then. Hopefully what ever void he has, Toni can fill for him.

Cichlids have a lot more higher thinking than some of your more basic instinctual fish. With this comes more unusual behaviors than other fish. As you have seen they can and do get moody, go move everything in his tank and see what happens. He maybe just trying to figure out what your doing. I mentioned how Toni bites the rocks and such when I move them to clean under them. It's so funny! I can just hear her saying "What are you doing!" "Put that back!"

I have noticed he seems to be a problem solver. The driftwood in his tank floats. Crickets who have managed to get aboard it can't get out of the tank. I've watched him splash them off or he will tilt and bump the wood and scare them into jumping.

The difference between Laz and my K&GF is pretty wide. He's like having a smart dog, they're more like owning a very pretty cow...

Now your getting, now your starting to see the light. Why we keep cichlids. Oscar's are called wet puppies for a reason.
When Toni was younger I changed the background on her tank. It was sooo friggin hilarious. For a couple days she would only swim against the front glass at a 45deg kilter, giving some serious side eye to the new background. 20171011_232917.jpg

Or when I got the new air pump, and for a few days she wouldn't go near the emitters at all. Or the "Plant if DOOM" incident.
And Oscar's are on the lowish side when it comes to glass bangers. Big cichlids that charge the glass every time you get near and try to bite you thru the glass!

There is something to keeping goldies that no other fish has. Once you've kept them, you will always want them. I can't explain it, but it is there. BTW, they are not so dumb either, they can recognize individual people who feed them and can tell if you're coming to feed or do WC. IMO, the tetras lead in the stupid department.

I dont think my K&GF are dumb at all but they are not predatory smart either. I've worked with actual cows when I was young and they arent dumb either. They just arent predatory smart. A perdatory fish has to be 3D problem solving smart. It makes for a different kind of personality.

Took a quick video of Laz this morning after I got home from work. Do y'all think he's getting fat? He's starting look kinda pudgy.

May need to turn your volume down I have alot of background noise today.

Not sure why he's so mad but he's attacking the glass in the rear corner of the tank this afternoon. He's been very cheecky lately
