I would say the top fish looks like the female, BUT it is almost imposiable to tell without the tubes, in my research , I have found that the females tube (vent) is fat and short , and the males is narrow and longer more like a stick, .. anyway IF you can get pics' of thier vents, you are more likely to get help ID the pair , IF anyone really can . it is best to see eggs, and see' the 2 fish staying together and watching the male fertlize the eggs, they will usually pair up and be BOTH cleaning a spot to lay. I have a false pair now, where I have a female cleaning a spot and looks heavy with eggs, but she pushes everyone away , so I belive this is a false preggo . I shall see, IF ' I do get fertile eggs, I will move them to a smaller tank and use the methane blue, water changes everyday, and a airstone strongly under the slate/plant whatever they laid on . HTH ~ good luck everyone , I am right there with ya !!
