I ordered 12 small angelfish and will wait till they pair off then each will have a tank I was going to buy 6 55g for each pair with a sponge filter and a breeding slate is this ok or to small and would stick the babies in a 10g with a sponge filter Is this ok. And how long till the start pairing up.

Nice choice my angels are still my favorite fish. 55 are way overkill for a pair a 20gal is all you need for a pair. the 55's will work perfect for growing the fry out. they take about 9- 12 months to pair up and start breeding. good luck.

Hey Beast, what you can do is.....seperate the tanks into three parts.... breed 3 pairs in a 55 gallon and that should still be good...I have bred angelfishes for the last 15 years on and off...so you should be good with two 55 gallon.... here is a project that I was working on.....I started selling wholesale to a few local fish hatchery in IL, and recently to florida in the hundreds,...they would then grow them out and in return resell them to the mass.....just a quick video... GREAT Video!:)

Good luck bro:) and keep us updated:D

Beast, depends if your pairs are fry raisers... if not... hatching them out themselves are pretty easy as well. Just place the eggs in a jar or tank, add a few drops of methylene blue into the jar or tank, everyday siphon out just a little water and add dechlorinated water back into the jar or tank, and by the time they all fall down from the slate, take out the slate, lower the aeration, and let them do their thing...they will look like their heads are glued together, this is normal, dont worry about it..continue taking out some water and replacing them until the angelfishes are free swimming...when they are..make sure you have newly hatch bbs to feed them....dont disturb them too much here...after a week, dump them into a 5.5 gallon and you should be out of the redzone... every thing after that...is fairly easy and less labor intensive... you should have about 20-50 frys... keep doing this and once you get good... you'll be on your way to 200-500 frys... Alee.
