Angel fish laid eggs

Have you started offering the fry flake food or small floating pellets.
hello; Yes they are taking three different commercial food I have on hand including flake and small pellets.
I had been concerned at first as I had started doing alternate feeding of the brine shrimp and then some powdered dry food. At first they did not seem to recognize the dry foods. I was careful to not add too much and to siphon out the bare tank three times a week.

I also threw in a few Ramshorn snails back when the fry were swimming well enough to avoid them . The snails have grown a lot as they have been doing clean up. Their easy pickings are over as the fry do not leave anything for long anymore.

I also threw in some live plants, free floating hornwort.

Hello; This post is a while since the last one in the thread. The angel parents have had three batches of eggs with the most recent two days ago.
Three batches ago I left the eggs with them and they were eaten. Two batches ago I clipped the leaf with eggs on it and placed them in a separate tank. The most recent batch will be left with the parents again.
I am trying another strategy with this most recent batch. I placed five brilliant rasboras in with the angels. The hope being that having other fish may trigger a stronger protective response. No reason to suspect this is a valid idea, but I am playing with ideas at this point.

One positive outcome has been that my strategy of removing the male and feeding up the female for almost two months is that she now holds her own. She no longer hides in a corner.

I took some photos tonight. One of the parents and the new batch of eggs although the eggs are not showing up so well. The parents did not pick a leaf suitable for a photo. I have spoken to them about this and figure they do not care.

One of the fry I raised from a batch from about three months ago. There are seven. Almost big enough to rehome.

One of a batch of fry that became free swimming about two days ago. I put the leaf in a tank with an air stone bubbling near. Added some methylene blue and started an infusoria culture by boiling some lettuce. I also gave the first feeding of brine shrimp today. Their bellies are nice and full and red. Hello; I guess it is time to write one of the final bits of this thread. A couple more things to do but there will be no more eggs from this pair.
I think I reported seeing the parents fight from time to time. It seemed a bit intense at times. The fights did not last long, at least the ones I saw, and the pair would get back to egg laying.

An irony is that the male started out somewhat bigger than the female and would beat her up often. I wound up keeping them in separate tanks and feeding her up to his size. The plan eventually seemed to work when I put them back into the 55 gallon together after several tries. The female one day seemed to understand she could stand up to the male. She sent him packing to the other end of the tank.
I have to give the male some due as he stood in and put up a good show of it. I would see some damage but he kept going back. They kept spawning in between fights. I confess to not paying attention close enough for a time. I did look each day and both fish were acting normal but I did not see the toll on the male.
One day I took a good close look and saw that the male not only had some old scars but one on his head looked bad. A bit closer look and I saw a raw place on a gill cover (operculum ?).
He turned and the other gill plate had a hole and I could see the gills. I moved him to a hospital tank but the places were also infected. I think somehow the damage and infection interfered with his ability to eat. The obvious wounds healed a bit but he began to waste away and could not eat. Anyway I saw little hope and put him down.

I still have the last batch of fry growing out. I will keep some and take the others to a fish shop. When they grow out enough I will try some in with big mean mom.

Hello; There have been many threads over time that just stopped and I never know what happened. So I want to report on what may bee the outcome of this thread.
After the female angel damaged the male to the point he eventually succumbed to his wounds I had her and a few if the their offspring left. I had taken the fry which grew out well formed and to a good size to an area fish shop some time before and had the runts and those with a deformed dorsal fin left.
Well about six of the runts eventually got to a decent enough size. I took them and the big female to a good shop yesterday. I have kept those with deformed dorsal fins and the remaining smallest juveniles. It has been several months since they hatched and I figure they will never be of much size. I will keep these long term.

A side story is that I gave four of the better juveniles to a friend. He called just before thanksgiving saying two had paired off and laid eggs in his community tank. I agreed to take the eggs and try to raise them but the next morning he called and said the eggs had been eaten. I expect they will spawn again.

I now have some tank capacity available and will have to decide what to do with it.

Maybe u could get a different fish but know that I look again I might have to get some angels
