Angel Q's - How many? What size? What kind?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah my LFS has them with every shipment that they bring in but only bring in so many. I took every single one they had and plan to go there this week once their new shipment arrives to gobble up all the Lemons.

Found some Angels that I absolutely love on Aquabid, however they are at dime size.

Would you put dime size angels with 2-2.5" geos and a 3" severum?

The Taps will pay no attention to the angels what so ever. The Severum may chase a little but in a 160 will do no harm. The Angels themselves might be harder on each other then your current stock will be. Once the pecking order is established the tank will settel down nicly, I love Lemon Tetras too. The only fish I don't care for in that set up would be the BGK. IMO out of place but it's your tank.

Well I haven't gotten the BGK yet as I'm debating on it yet myself. If I don't do the BGK I want to do a fancy pleco or two.

And thanks for the response Aquanero, I have never kept Angels before so the whole 'dime size' was a tad concerning. I'll buy them right away from Aquabid and enjoy my stock and still think on the BGK/Pleco thing.

Angelfish breeders use the coin size for the visual size discription of the body. A dime size body is roughly 17mm or just over 5/8". They are small and can be some what delacate at that size. If you want to start them on pellets which I recomend doing, I use NLS Thera +A .5 mm or the Hakari micro pellets is also a size they will be able to accept.

Thanks I'll pick up that size, I do have some spirulina flake on hand already (I like to give all my cichlids a bit of veggies).

By small and somewhat delicate is this something that I should be concerned about mixing a 3" severum with? I'm sorry if I keep asking rather daft questions, it's just I never kept Angels before and have always viewed them as rather peaceful fish - like in the neon tetra area of peaceful...perhaps my idea is rather off on these fish though.

I think it should be fine. However, with cichlids it honestly depends on their personalities. If you're going to do it, try getting the largest angelfish you can find, as others have said.

They will be fine. Just provide a healthy and stable environment.

Just got my fish in today from Rapps, after seeing them I don't know why I was so concerned. There's no way these guys could beat up dime sized angels in a tank this large. I guess I was overly worried about it.
