Angel Q's - How many? What size? What kind?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I took into consideration what Tom said about wild crosses, while the one he pictured is gorgeous and what I would ultimately want, they don't all look the same. So by getting a bigger group (without going over board) I have a better chance at getting the type of fish I want.

And up here in Minnesota everyone loves Angelfish (I seriously didn't realize how big into Angelfish people were up here until I went onto my local fish forums) so finding places for the extras won't be an issue.

Lights came in!

Few things to cover first...

Camera = Bad phone camera, borrowing a slightly better camera over the weekend.
Tank = 160g is an odd shape that you don't find often. In my 160g in the center is a 24"x20" glass square that is glued into the top frame - no idea who the manufacturer of the tank is.
Lighting = Because of the above I only bought lighting for 2/3rds of the tank.
Decor = Isn't finished, waiting on some snow to melt up here so I can visit rock queries for some nice larger river type rock.

Last night prior to new lighting below - there is a light stand in the corner that is also on otherwise it would be even darker. The light in this photo is just a single 24" strip light.

With the new LED lighting - the light in the corner is off and the middle isn't really as dark as it looks in this picture.

I added the single strip light over the middle with the LED lighting.

Oh and since this is the Angel forum here's one of two of my small angels...I can only apologize for my lack of camera knowledge, but I'll learn and get better shots as I go along.

Nice set-up and fish. Are these the wild cross from Angels Plus?

I actually bought these local.

After a few emails back and forth I was informed that I'm in prime Angelfish breeding area (I had no idea!) and that there are several local guys who produce quality Angelfish.

I have some more driftwood coming in as I want to keep more plecos and I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can get some more rock. But other then that I'm pretty happy with the tank.
