Angelfish Breeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is worth leaving the fry in with the parents the first couple of spawns as there is a high rate of healthier fry. I did a test and the fry that I left with the parents for 3 days were MUCH healthier than the ones that were in the tank by themselves.

I don't really know what this "nipping" is but my angelfish do it to. If I were to guess what it ment I would say that it was the male showing to the female that he is ready to breed... but I'm not sure.

You can't be absolutly sure what the gender of an angelfish is until they are breeding. the females egg tube will be thicker, and the males will be piontier. when they have them out when breeding, it is very easy to tell the difference.

I would recomend feeding Rotifera, hikary first bites and then after they have grown a bit finly crushed flake food.

man i tried breeding angels bought 10 of them they ended up killing each other now i have 3 who constantly fight and will not let any thing else get in = (

i am breeding some koi angelfish right now. when they start pecking at a one spot then they will breed soon. :D

ok but they really never really stay in the same place and i have a 5g with a pleco and a freshwater flounder and i plan on selling the little angelfish so would this be big enough

the 5 gallon would be ok for the first month.... but it would be better to use a 10 gallon. Then when there top and bottom fins start to grow away from the body and they get that classic angelfish look i would move them to a 20 gallon. then wait until they are a little bit smaller than a dime and move them to a 55 gallon... or bigger to grow them out. Most stores won't take them until they are a quarter in size, they say that is the stage when there immune systems are fully developed.

When they are small you should do small 10 to 15 percent water changes every day, and then when they get bigger you can do water changes every 2-3 days of about 50%-75% the more water changes the less likely they are to get stunted... and stunted fish don't sell well.

what kind of angelfish are they? I used to keep angels a long time ago. They laid eggs all the time on the leaf of an amazon sword plant. It was neat to watch them meticulously clean the leaf before they lay eggs.

I just hate that when they pair up, they try to kill everything else in the tank to defend their territory and only get more aggressive when they are about to spawn.

angelfish will protect their young, but a divider does help, i guess its based on how many fish you have in the tank and what kind of fish they are. they will fight with other angels for sure though.
