Angelfish in 75 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey guys! Thanks all for the input! Really appreciate it! I will probably get 6 angels and see how they do. If I buy them small (2 inches), how quickly will they get to mature size?
9 month to a year.

My angels mature sexually at about 8-12 months, but they keep growing maybe for 4/5 years? The growth slows way down after 2 years, but they can continue to grow, especially getting thicker.
Yes. Mine did at least. And You may get extensions on the fins after 5-6 years. That happened I me.

I've had 5 in a planted bowfront with a mix of smaller fish for a couple years now. It's worked out fine for me. Spawning does happen, but they are not aggressive enough to do any damage to each other, they just keep the others in hiding for the duration. The eggs never make it my tank, they always get eaten. Probably by my pair of bushynose plecos. You could get away with 6 but that's probably as far as I would go keeping adult size in mind. They are great with other species though.

It is a big bioload, but nothing a 75g can't handle IMO. Remember BB grows on everything, tank walls, substrate....
I never had a problem unless I had a ton of other big fish. What other fish do you plan to keep in there?
probably a medium sized bichir. But thats it.
