Why is it that whenever I hop on my bike and go for a ride, fellow motorists around me seem to be about 50% less observant (don't answer the question because I already know the answer).

I've had 3 near misses in the last week, two of which would have left me severely injured or dead and one that would have been a bit less hazardous to my health. I've been riding for about 6 years and I'm not new to near misses, but 3 in one week! My God!

I'd just like to publicly say to everyone reading this right now...

Take the extra 2 seconds to look for bikes before making your move, it just might save a life.

I also ask that everyone watch this short PSA...
Thankyou. ;)

Sorry to hear that. I don't ride, yet, but want to. It is a shame that in this society something as potentially life altering as driving isn't taken more seriously. I have had near misses in my car and can't imagine how many beats my heart would have skipped if I were on a motorcycle.

I almost hit a motorcyclist a couple weeks ago on the way to work. Early morning,(4:30 am) on a rainy interstate hiway. The guy had no tail light or reflective gear and was doing about 40 mph. I was doing 50-55 and only seem him at the last second, almost ran him down from behind.

I don't ride myself, but I see alot of riders putting themselves in danger. Either by staying in obvious blind spots or by traveling at over excessive speeds.

I always like to think of it as playing football. You just got passed the ball, now run and don't get touched/tackled. Most times, I come home from a long ride and my middle finger is useless from the workout it just got...

lol

I totally agree because some cars are just stupid and don't even check their blind spots before merging and what not. But at the same time because you are on a motorcycle you have to be sooo much more cautious. You have no idea how many motorcylists I see weaving in and out of traffic like crazy and are just stupid! It works both ways I just wish people would be more observant!!!

I thought that video was hilarious. I was waiting for the narrator to say something like "and then out of nowhere"

But on the serious side I do ride too. I've noticed that when I'm approaching an intersection I tend to watch a cars rims. Its the quickest way for me to tell if the cars in any motion at all.

A late member of my Unitarian killed a motorcyclist with her car by accident.
I agree it goes both ways, but since people on motorcycles are more likely to be killed in accidents involving cars, we in cars need to watch out and give them some extra room.
