Angry Motorcyclist Rant

Motorcycles are awful. I'm sorry people ride them, but if you're going to ride one, it had better be blinking like a Las Vegas billboard or you're just asking to get run over. Almost every male (in the previous generation) on both sides of my family has been injured while riding motorcycles. It's just not worth it. You have the choice to sell or destroy that contraption right now. If you choose to get on that death trap, you don't have the right to be angry about your own choice.

They wouldn't be such a "death trap" as you put it if people would learn how to drive. And no talking on the phone, texting, eating, reading, having your cat sitting on your shoulder ( I saw that one the other day and was shocked), etc is not the correct way to drive. I've always thought that everyone should have to ride a motorcycle at some point when they get their regular drivers license. Nothing points out other drivers bad habits faster then when it actually puts your well being in danger.

I always told myself that when I became a big girl I would ride, but it's because of 'this' same reason I won't do it anymore.. it's just too risky..

Exactly. I used to ride my bicycle around town and it's just a joke. You have to stay so paranoid to maintain safety that it's not fun at all.

I've ridden on the backs of motorcycles a few times and all my mind does the whole time is play the scenes of having my arm ground off by asphalt and my head being decapitated by a truck. Car drivers are less cautious than ever and it's only getting worse. I've seen moms come to pick up their kids at the school and cruise in while texting. AT THE SCHOOL. So all bets are off. If you'd rather take that risk, then do it. But don't expect the world to roll out a red carpet for you. I do my part to be as safe and careful as I can. I don't even own a cell phone. I sit up straight and always know who's behind and ahead of me. Even with all my excessive caution, I've had motorcycles sneak up on me. Nothing dangerous, I just didn't know they were there until I was within about thirty feet or so. That's no good. So from a cautious and loving driver, please take safety seriously. At the least, get some sort of irritating and dorky strobing light to draw attention to the bike.

oh, and to wulfonce. just kick a mirror or break a windshield. they'll learn not to do that again. And since both cost right around the average insurance deductable, they'll pay for the lesson.

to knifegill the old saying loud pipes save lives is true. If they don't see me they'll atleast here me and that'll cause them to look again

I ride.

Every time I pull out of the driveway I just pretend everyone in a car is on a mission to murder me. :)

I now ride exceptionally loud vintage "cafe racers" (Hondas mostly)... Ever since I started modifying my exhaust to be obnoxious, people seem to notice I'm around more.

If you dont want to ride a bike, fine. The rest of us will keep riding. Life is short anyway, and I've never experienced any sensation like riding a bike. There are plenty of other things you do every day that could kill you. Motorcycles might be a bit more risky, but there's plenty of other things people do that are much worse. ;)

I'm on the fence about bikes.

The biggest problem for me is 80% of the bikes I see are going WAY to fast, bobbing and weaving in and out of traffic and acting like they own the road. The reputation ruins it for the guys just out for a good ride.I always like to see I'd start seeing bikes if they started driving in the lanes at the speed limit like they are supposed to.

I was almost hit by a bike in my car on the highway two weeks ago. Had I not braked when he cut me off, I would have hit him and run him over. Guy was doing well into the triple digits bobbing and weaving. After cutting me off, popped a wheelie and started passing on the shoulder. IMO - more win than Charlie Sheen right there.

driving is gambling your life all the time.I deal with that every single day at my job honestly, also I notice people either in cars or on the motorcycles barely pay attention 75% of the time on the road.

Riding a motorcycle makes me very aware of my surroundings. A lot of drivers seem to be oblivious so right or wrong I'm the one that has to avoid the accident.
