Another 180 need some stocking ideas! :D

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Group of Moba Frontosa.

What I would go with would be this (but I don't have much experience with these so it MAY not work):

1 vieja synspilus
1 Herichthys carpintis
1 tiger oscar
4 silver dollars
1 common pleco
1 Tigrinus ( if you can upgrade it later)
1 irwini catfish (be prepared to upgrade in several years IF needed)

may at be overstocked but again I'm just getting into my first cichlid tank so don't know a whole ton about them. Probably what I will wind up doing in a few years when I get my 180 but we will leave that to another thread later on :)

could I keep 2 jags (managuense) with 2 dempsys in the 180 or just the two jags ? I really want both

Not a paired pair. They'd kill the Dempsey. But two non paired females or males may work although two males Jags together may be problematic. I have a single male jag with a breeding pair of dempseys in my 125 and they are fine. Granted though the dempseys hide majority of the time but for dempseys that normal

Well in that case they probably aren't a good option the tank will be bare bottom and I don't even know how to get a mated pair so that won't be an issue ok so it want jags now because I've never had one before but what to put with them and is there any way I could get a mated pair of jags male and female or would I have to buy adults

If you have a mated pair I'd be hesitant to put anything with cichlid wise in a bare bottom. To get a pair you could buy juveniles and pair them that way or buy a male and female and hope for the best. I wouldn't put anything with that a cichlid cause without some form of hiding spot they'll kill it. Beside adult Jags would fill that tank eventually. There was a member who had a pair in a 180 and they made that tank look like a 90.

I'm re-stocking my 180 currently. I'm keeping my 15" TSN and 2 10" Oscars in there, adding 6 Silver Dollars (4 Red Hook, 2 Spotted) this weekend. I'm planning on adding a few more SD in the near future. I really like the way Oscars and SD's work together. Oscar personality, and constant movement and shoaling of the SD's.
