Another one. They would be making a comeback, if people would stop catching them!

Exactly! All the coelacanth that had been caught the past century died within the day or two. Stop catching them and maybe the fish would have a better chance or increasing their numbers!

im sick of ppl catching rare and endangered, like in japan a few months back they found that snake like shark, and took it to an aquarmium and then it died.. MORONS... probably ate it afterwards

I read a couple articles about that shark being caught off the coast of Japan, and a few things struck me as interesting.

First off, it is usually a deep sea shark, so for it to be spotted swimming so close to the surface, means that it was sick and dying. The video of the shark swimming (still in the wild) showed that there was obviously something wrong with the shark.

The Japanese ichthyologists who caught it, took it to the aquarium for observation which might teach them more about the species of shark. The more we know about a species, the better chance it has at being conserved.

hmm....like, are you sure u are juz critisizing their actions? cuz i sense really bad vibes coming from your words....

dang just the other day i learned in science class that there are only about 300 or so left in the sea. now only 299:(

Wow interesting info guys.... they don't fish for these fish they catch them by accident thats why they don't catch them more often. They like to be really deep like 6 hundred feet down and usually die before the are in the boat due to pressure changes. they have a vast range now and are being caught in diffrent locations. People don't usually fish that deep and have only been doing so in the last 60-70 years. Maybe theres more stuff down there?
