Hey guys. Ive got a 72 gallon bowfront tank, and as of tomorrow I will have a 5" male RES. I was wondering if there were any other cool aquatic turtles that could live with him? I know florida softshell males... anything else? Other than sliders/painteds?

A musk or mud turtle might work. Softshells usually have nasty dispositions and can bite tank mates. They also in turn can get fungus from scratches from other species kept with them.

I wouldn't put a SS in, their shells get damaged easily...plus they can be very aggressive...Better choice would be a cooter or painted, preferably a female. I've had muds and musks which worked too, as well as various Asian pond turtles. You gotta be careful though, there is a reason why RES have spread all over the world, they are very aggressive feeders.

Get an alligator snapper and maybe a cb fw terrapin.

im not saying buy a 3' snapper so i dont see why its so hilarious...

Ever tried keeping a Alli snapper with other turtles? I did...he swallowed my African Helmeted turtle's head and neck. The only thing that saved the AHT from decapitation was the snappers jaws closed on the shell and I was able to use a pair of scissors to pry the snappers jaws open long enough to get the other turtle out lol.

Another fine reason why you shouldn't house them with other turtles.
