So Ive got a question. I got two RES's, an 8" female and a 6" male, and I put em in my tank, along with a large "turtle dock". Are the docks any good? They havent used it yet, im not sure they know how.
I've never used one of those turtle docks because I just make my own out of bricks, shale or driftwood. As long as the basking light is over top of the dock, they'll figure it out.
The docks are a bit rubbish apparently, I prefer cork bark (it floats, and is naturally curved).
As for tank mates, in a 72G, I'd keep it solitary. Turtles (with the exception of Cooters, which swim in large groups in the wild, and possibly DBTs) are solitary by nature. They compete with each other for food and territory, and at best will tolerate each other.
Plus, if anything goes wrong, such as an illness, infection or such, you only have one turtle to treat, so the vet bill is a lot smaller
Well the two I have have been living for a year together with one more in a 20 long. I believe they will do fine with each other. I may add another small turtle, or introduce my painted turtle because he needs the space. They have lots of swimming room. Also, I have decided to build a dry area they can climb onto, because Ive decided the floating dock is pretty crappy.
