Here's a pic of my second DIY tank stand. The first one was for a 110 and I bulit it like a tank. Problem was it weighed as much as a tank. This one is a cumalation of all the info I have gathered on this site. It is much more simpler and lighter. Just used 2X4's and today I will go to Home Depot and pick up the lightest and thinnist plywood I can find and cover it. It only took a couple hours to do this (hope it doesnt show :irked:). I am convinced that this is more than enough. Just to satisfy myself I went to a couple LFS's and check out the stands. If they can hold a tank then this defiantely will.

I have to give thanks to all who contribute to this site but special thanks to Mike Dunagan for his "INDY DIY GUYS" thread. I pretty much copied his ideas for the stand and even took Pharaoh's advice and picked up a kregg jig . Made things easier. Thanks INDY GUYS.

If you are looking for very thin plywood that is very economical, use some of 4x8 ft fake paneling sheets. Home Depot and Lowes both sell them. I had a tone of them that I ripped out of my house when I bought it. The front of them are really ugly (in my opinion), but the back of them has some really nice grain features. Much better than the thin cheap plywood out there. If you truely built the stand like a tank (but lighter this time), then you won't need heavy plywood for additional bracing. I used this panel on my 135 tank, and it looks just like nice cherry wood.

cant wait to see the finished product

we just skin our stands for looks... really thin stuff...

looks good, Pharaoh is the mastermind of building. I can do stuff myself, but we bounce ideas off each other... and it works out much better!

Thats exactly what I did. Was hoping to get it done this weekend but I still have to stain it and put the doors on. Back to work Monday so progress will be slow but this time next week it'll definately be done with the tank on it and ready to cycle.

Thanks again for your tips.

Here's where I'm at now. I extended the top to cover the bottom frame of the fish tank. Like I said, keeping it simple. I really dont have the time, patience, space (to build) or proper tools to really go all out on a stand. Maybe one day.
