yea funny how i've been thinking along the same lines. had finalized on a nice green for $120, then a week later this red comes along for $360. Need to go today and ask him about golds and chilli/super reds :)

If you can afford it go with an RTG. you won't regret and Asian arow you buy but golds are nice when the colour starts to come out. Even more so with super reds but they're very pricey.

ok so got myself a new 6x2x2 tank for the banjar red i plan to get.

i get conflicting views/opinions from a couple of LFS people here who are both very experienced in the hobby and both keep aros [golds, reds and what not :)].

one guy says not to keep powerhead filters as the current flow will damage the jaws/gills of the aro. the other says aros love flowing water?!

and one guy says not to add any substrate while the other says just a layer of substrate will be fine?!

...and so on and so forth. since i be spending two months salary on this endevaour i'd prefer to get things right from the word go rather than make mistakes and learn from them :D

so yes my queries are as follows:

1) Filtration: For the tank size mentioned above what filtration is required? Will a 1300L/H external canister filter + a 2000L/H Powerhead Filter suffice? How often does one change the carbon/ceramic rings in the canister? And in the external filter what is the ideal position for the inlet and outlet inside the tank?

2) Substrate: Do i add any or do i add just a layer?

3) Tankmates: For a 5-6" Banjar Red can i add 4 polyps [3-4"], a few clown loaches and a pleco?

4] Water Changes: Do i change 10% daily or 30-50% on a weekly basis?

5] And lastly can i add one Green along with the bajnar?

thanks :)

1)not expert not very sure
2)your choice
3)tankmates fine as long it doesnt fit in the aro's mouth
4)30-50%
5)i wouldnt risk it but you can try just have an extra tank but it prob fail

thanks :)

as someone said in another thread in here "hao will be here" i knew you would clear my doubts and apprehensions :)

now if only someone could answer my filtration query i can start setting it up :)

Also Hao you say tankmates are fine as long as they do not fit inside the aro's mouth...but forgive my noob question, are not aro's top dwellers and if yes should not my clowns be safe from him?
