there is a secluded place near me... many thousands of acres....... they import these animals from africa... just so someone can shoot them...... the animal is secured in a small area...so you cannot miss....... it is all about money..... and it is wrong.....selfish act......these photos of this girl was probably in a place like this..not africa.. not a big game hunter.. but just simply a exhibitonist........calling attention to themself at the cost of a life.

Liz you might be on to something here.

Because if they run out of animals (supply) there will be no more people paying exorbitant amounts to hunt them (demand). There fore in the best interests of greed- even the most corrupt will have a vested interest in keeping the populations alive.

Okay,so what are they doing about the bushmeat situation?..The dictators have already sold their lands to the highest bidders from the Far East who are raping the land of its natural resources which nets the rulers far more loot than so called conservation hunting ever will.

This is a stunt to draw attention. In one of her quotes (from another interview) she even states that she hopes her hunting will gain her fame and wants to be a reality TV star.

To me if you want to do something for conservation, donate the money and volunteer your time. I know plenty of places that could save a lot of animals with a six figure donation.

The other question is think should be posed is not "Is it legal?" but "Is it moral?". We used to have slaves based on skin color and no women could vote. Those were both "legal" in the US not too long ago when you look at the big picture. Does it make either of them right? No.

Very rarely is taking out an animal (especially an endangered one) the best situation for the population and it's management by humans.

That being said, I think FB should have been more clear of the reason behind pulling them. If it was a 'legal' take, then it is what it is. A better phrasing may have been that they are against the killing of endangered animals, and by passed the term "poaching".

i agree.......... and every animal has a right to life...there is a secluded place near me... many thousands of acres....... they import these animals from africa... just so someone can shoot them...... the animal is secured in a small area...so you cannot miss....... it is all about money..... and it is wrong.....selfish act......these photos of this girl was probably in a place like this..not africa.. not a big game hunter.. but just simply a exhibitonist........calling attention to themself at the cost of a life.

THIS is what burns me up the most Liz! This is exactly what I think. I think they went to some secured spot, and took more time considering their "cool"
fb pictures than thinking about the animals life. Idiots lookin to be stroked by other idiots.

sadly yes........... :(

Ok I still dont think some people are seeing how this helps the animals. Say you have dont sell permits, and just make hunting them illegal. Poachers are still going to take hundreds or thousands of animals because these 3rd world countries cant afford to throw money away on saving animals when they cant feed their families. Ok ask for donations. How many people are making big donations? Not lets say you sell 6 permits at an average of 250k each. Thats 1.5m to hire security and such to fight poaching and if that dropped poaching by 10% and saved 100 animals, in exchange for 6 being hunted. Thats a win in my book and like previously stated puts a strong monetary value on keeping them around for time to come. Simple fact is they were being poached to extinction. Id say without trophy hunting theres a good chance a number of species would already be extinct

Last year south africa had over 1000 rhinos poached. If they could sell 6 permits and bring in enough money to reduce that number by 10% how can you say that isnt saving the species? Even if you reduced the number by 1% they still saved 4 rhinos. Id personally never shoot one of those animals, but I also wouldnt ever donate hundreds of thousands to just hoping they are saved.

License hunts are not the problem...

Loss of habitat and poaching are...as with most situations, unless you show the population around having the said wildlife around has a value, the animals are not going to be protected.

License hunting is one way to show local population that having wildlife around is a good thing.

Exactly. And the animals shot aren't just left to waste. I have friends that have gone to Africa and hunted and part of the conditions of the hunt was that all the meat would be donated to poor local tribes. This is a group of people who are among the most likely to become poacher due to the lack of revenue. Many struggle to put food on the table. This feeds their families. Not only that but the men of the tribe are hired to carry gear and set up camps which is another highly needed source of revenue. Often dozens are needed. Hunting gives the animals value beyond the black market for these people. So even if none of the money makes it to help conserve wild populations (which it does) it likely saves far more live than it takes.
