Another "NEW" Species...... Right....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Described as "Threatened species in the wild"? Could be the LFS be trying to get a reaction on a public forum? "Any publicity is good publicity." Seems they are effectively not for sale at $65/per? Dunno, strange.

The only thing I can say is I personally have never seen either of those fish you named on his list nor has he ever said,"Hey John I got a new species in that's called...."-whatever the heck they were, so I would pretty much bet on it that its that lfs making up names. The only hybrid he has on his list is loisellei X chairel carpintis. And if you think he came on the site and said the above, than why is it hard to believe that whoever is labeling fish at that particular store is making stuff up?Or maybe that LFS is going through a 3rd party-who knows?Or maybe the fish aren't even from DCT at all and he's just throwing his name around because people respect him. Who knows?
And last but not least.....maybe it really is a new species:nilly:

The fish are definitely from DCT. That's not in dispute. Even another forum member did his own research and verified that the LFS owner was at DCT on Monday to pick up his order. The LFS was also confirmed by another DCT vendor as receiving Don's carpintis 'vontehillos' this week too.

Don't get me wrong though. I absolutely see the possibility that the LFS is the one fully at fault. They are the sellers aren't they?

Why don't you ask Don? I'd be interested to hear what he'd have to say.

Never had a problem getting Don to respond. There's always been an explanation. There were explanations behind the hybrids that were listed as "species" in his 1993 book too. It's the veracity of that explanation that I'd like to be able to confirm through another source. That's why I'd prefer to get the LFS owner's story. Plus, Don isn't selling these fish in my city, the LFS is. They are responsible for the explanation unless and until they point a finger at DCT.

If you'd like to ask Don feel free, but keep it to "have you heard of this species" questions. After all, it's not like the fish are in his "store." I won't be asking DC anything until I get the LFS story first, and as I indicated the owner wasn't available yesterday.

How bout' the price on these guys "pearlscale tigers" - $69.99

High priced, yes, but at least they're labeling them as hybrids.

Wow, instead if discrediting DCT which is a legit business with a reputation why don't you discredit the fish store. Like it has been stated, if DCT is going to label a fish a hybrid and sell it is one thing, however if the LFS chooses to sell it by another name is not his fault. Why don't you email Don directly instead of all this alleged slander you are spreading. I understand that the shop owner told you where he gets his orders from, by what if he is not telling you the truth. Did you show you his invoice? I'm just saying if you were in his shoes and I was posting this stuff about your business how would you feel?

Please thoroughly read my posts before jumping to conclusions. I am not attempting to slander DCT. You, like so many, are reading into my comments to suit your own purposes. I only indicated the fish came from DCT to the LFS. It is the LFS who is posting the bogus name. The explanation has yet to come...

Regarding your question about how would I feel if I were in the LFS owner's shoes? BUSTED!

Now, if he wants to pass the blame off on DCT the issue takes another step in that direction, but until and unless that occurs we can only speculate.

WHAT IS NOT SPECULATION is there in no such species as Astatheros civalis or Astatheros cincaia.

......and one last point about reputations. One's reputation take a long time to develop and an even longer time to change. There is a lonnnnng thread in the buy/sell forum about a failed deal that burned a lot of forum members. That seller had a reputation too......among those that had been burned before. A little more discussion could have changed some things.

Actually this is concerning the LFS selling mislabled fish. Reverse what does this have to do with Paul?

Good to see you understand this is a LFS issue until and unless they point the finger at DCT.

Even then, it could be word against word.....or reputation against reputation. Perhaps it could become word WITH word and reputation WITH reputation..... All sorts of possibilities!

....but that's not a new species Mr. Animal Jungle!
