thanks all. as for that sump design it looks about what ive been finding i guess i just over complicated things. ive got some old tanks, would i be able to use the glass instead of the acrylic? ive cut glass before and im sure i can do it. ill try and get some pics of the stand when i attack it this weekend.

If you can cut glass, it should be fine. Acrylic is usually just easier to work with.

not much going on at work so i tried a sump design in paint.
its a 35 gallon glass tank
what do you guys think

only suggestion I would make to improve that sump design would be to put the refugium on the right hand side and put the return pump section in the middle. The benefit to doing this is that you can run a seperate small pump into the refugium that overflows water back into the return pump section. That way you can adjust the amount of flow in your refugium and it doesn't have to be the same super strong current running through the rest of your sump. I've found that the macro algae and zooplankton thrive better in my fuge at lower flow rates, and with an 80 gallon tank your return pump will have to run a pretty high flow rate. My sump is only 20 gallons though, so I guess its possible that the extra space in your fuge might make it a non issue.

yea i see your point, thats why i posted this plan to find any improvements or some ideas to make it more efficient. so that middle baffle in the group of 3 pieces of glass is ok to go all the way to the top or does it even matter?

im building the stand now and ill be posting some pictures when i finish it.
