I've always had good dealings with tfd...

Nick, you put it well. TFD is a wholesaler.

mssassy... None of the lfs near me can keep pbass alive. They all keep them at 77* and they die within days.

Joe isn't an expert at identifying all 500 of the different types of fish he gets over a period of time. He doesn't have to be to sell to fish stores. I have obviously seen the ID problems just like everyone else here. It sucks. I take my chances with it sometimes... It seems that the combo he's doing with selling to stores and individuals is hard to keep up with... But I hope he can keep doing it. I've gotten some good stuff from them at decent prices.

No one said you had to order from them! No one said they had to let hobbiest order from them at the same time as pet shops. I understand you are upset that you sometimes get the wrong fish, in fact the last time i ordered from them i got 3in farowellas and they were supposed to be large between 6-8in but they were $2.50 instead of $15 at the LFS. THEY ARE WHOLESALE!!! If you paid the retail price for some of these fish i would understand being so upset, but if you are getting a fish for 1/5th of what you normally pay i dont understand getting extremely upset about it. For instance i order alot of discus for myself, friends and family, They retail between $40-$60 at my LFS and thats just for pigeon bloods and the heckel or wild coloring(brown). You can get most discus from them for around $12.50 after the special markdown and they even have some that are cheapier than that. I dont really care if i even get the right coloring or type i order as long as i get healthy discus that look okay. And so far NO complaints. Most of them even turn out to look better than the ones in the stores!!! Some arent the greatest but when they are a 1/4th of the cost not many people will complain.

So simply put, for all you complaining you dont get the fish you order from TFD, go to the LFS and pay 3-4 times or even more than that for the fish that you can tell is what you are looking for. People make mistakes and Joe cannot possible correctly identify all those fish they move weekly thru their tanks, he tries his best and kudos to you Joe, Darin, Karen and all the rest of you up there at TFD. Keep up teh GOOD WORK!!!

I do still feel that MAYBE he should do something more for people buying the more expensive fish, like 50+, that get the wrong thing. Some of those aren't exactly wholesale prices... So that excuse is out.

do you really think he is going to do something about a $5 fish?

IMO he really should no matter what the cost of the fish, if he really values his customers how would you feel if you sent money looking to buy a particular fish and was another that's just wrong but that's just my 2cents.

you should know what your selling before you sell it, simple as that.

Like when I ordered 13 ( silver dats from him ) and they came in as fw mangrove snapper with horrible body flukes... I now currently have 2 left, saved them all from the flukes but they decided to kill eachother... the clownloaches came in fine though.

Agree..

I understand the purpose of wholesale. The larger problem IMO is it helps lead to lfs' that mislabel fish, and people who are hobbiests but placed a order that ordered 15 dats that are highly compatible to what showed up was 15 mangrove jacks that aren't. Most of the fish they carry are pretty common. Sure a couple raritys, rays, and others but most of them I could ID correctly and I'm far from an expert.

If I sell you a car as being a mercedes benz over the internet but it's really a chrysler when it shows up.. would you be upset?

Sorry milk thought it was 15 rather it was 13..

Thats why i say you should by at a LFS instead of off the internet. I have had fish from Fosters and smith come in wrong and thy have said that i was wrong.

cichlaguapote: thats not a very wise statement, i wouldnt by even a crappy car off the internet, cause your liable never to even get one, or just get the body or something. I see what you were trying to say, but again your are taking a risk purchasing wholesale and especially when you cannot even see the stock themselves.
